From the Pastor
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Web Site of the Athens (Alabama) Church of God. On June 8, 2008 I began service to this congregation as its interim pastor. The purpose of the interim pastorate is to conduct worship and preach, provide leadership, and give pastoral support to the congregation while it is conducting a search for a new long-term pastor. My wife and I have been part-of-the year members of this congregation for several years when we come to our home in Decatur from our winter home in Florida. We have come to love and appreciate the Athens Church of God very much.
I hope you will feel welcome to consider making this congregation your church home, and that you might come to appreciate it as Mrs. Lee and I do. This congregation believes in and practices "love for God and love to others." It is strong in its participation of causes for justice and care for those in need. Athens Church of God is a congregation of the Church of God which has its central offices in Anderson, Indiana. This denomination developed in the 19th century with an emphasis on the unity of all Christian believers. The worship style at Athens Church of God is traditional with emphasis on the singing of great hymns and Gospel songs as well as sound Biblically based preaching and teaching.
The Church Council, and the entire congregation, invite you to contact us if you have questions, and to visit our church whenever you may find it possible.
