Greetings From the Pastor,
Welcome to the Athens (Alabama) Church of God web site. I accepted a call from God and this congregation to serve as the senior pastor in January 2009. Prior to that time, I was serving God and our country as a chaplain in the U. S. Army.
While serving as a military chaplain, I ministered to our soldiers and their families during stressful times of deployment and separation. The heartaches and difficulties of having a family while serving in our nation’s military since September 11, 2001 has left many families broken and torn to pieces. Many of these families returned from service and are now living in our communities. It is my goal and vision to provide the Love of Christ to these broken-hearted souls and to help mend their relationship with one another and with our Lord and Savior.
We, at Athens Church of God, want you to feel welcome enough to consider making this congregation your church home. Our style of worship is interdenominational. In fact, in the military, our style of worship would be considered a "general Protestant service." We believe in and practice "love for God and love to others." We are strong in community involvement and care for those in need. I believe our congregation has the most gifted and talented musicians in Limestone County.
